The Perfect Night Time Routine :)
Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. ~ Matthew 11:28
Hey people! Today, I'm gonna share with you the smartest ways to spend your nights to prepare for a perfect day ahead.
Now, Night time is a time where we unwind. It's where we collapse at the end of the day, and enjoy the short but sweet time we have to just breathe. But some of us, are "breathing", the wrong way. First of all, it's completely fine to watch your favorite show. Even every night! But, we have to absolutely make sure we're spending time for ourselves. Now, I talked about this a lot in my, "5 ways to turn your day around" post, so you can check out more about that there. But basically, I see a generous amount of people spending their free time at the end of the day not very wisely. Again, you can totally watch your favorite show, but take time to review the day, read a book, and R - E - L - A - X. So, here are my tips to a perfect night routine.
1. Disconnect
This one is probably the hardest out of all of these, but still, very important. About 30 minutes before you fall asleep, choose to turn off all your screens. You see, using your devices straight before bed delays your body's internal clock. It can also stop releasing the sleep inducing hormone called melatonin, which makes it harder to fall asleep. Instead, use the time to read, do yoga, take a hot bath/shower, and, again, relax.
2. Reflect
So, after disconnecting, you might feel a bit like, now what? So, take this time to pull out a notebook or journal, and jot down any emotions, worries, or random things that keep surfacing in your head. And after you're done with that.......
3. Do a quick tidy up
Having a somewhat tidy room keeps your brain nice and clean as well. And that way, when you wake up the next morning, you don't trip over stuff, and you feel cleaner and more productive already. Also, the more comforting and relaxing your space is, the easier to feel comfortable and eventually fall asleep.
4. Read
Reading slows down your brain and helps you relax. I've also noticed it makes my eyes really tired, therefore letting me go to sleep even faster.
5. Keep it consistent.
If one night you fall asleep at 1:00 am, and then the next night at 9, your body clock will be totally thrown off, making it both harder to fall asleep and harder to wake up. So try to stick to a schedule. And with every night that you stay consistent, the easier it is to both fall asleep and wake up. So set your alarms people, we're about to have the best night yet!
Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go. ~ Joshua 1:9
