5 Ways to Turn your Day Around
Hi beautiful people! So, whether it's emotionally or circumstantially, you're in a bad mood. Fun, huh? In case you didn't know, when you're in an emotional bad mood, that usually means, well, you basically woke up on the wrong side of the bed. Nothing bad happened, you just feel tired, angry, irritated, and like you wanna hide in a hole all day. It's okay, I get it. When you're in an emotional bad mood, everything sets you off. Whether it's this, that, or the other thing, they all pile on top of each other until you're mainly a fire breathing dragon at this point. Again, not fun. Now, with the circumstantial bad mood, something around you has probably made you feel this way. Either you got in an argument, your plans were canceled, or something else that understandably, made you feel like this.
1. Identify your Bad Mood
Now, this sounds like a given, but really. Is it something around you that set you off, or are you just having a bad day? or maybe somewhere in between? Sometimes it's hard to tell, other times, easy. Either way, be honest with yourself, you deserve it. What really is causing this awful bad mood?

Okay, picture this, you just finally got home from a horrid day of work or school, everything seems to be going wrong, and you don't want to do anything other than watch TV or block out the world. Well, that's what you're doing wrong. You see, when you have a horrible day, you come home and block out your thoughts and feelings. That's when you end up distracting yourself until you go to bed, and when you wake up the next morning you just go straight to work/school again, leaving your thoughts and feelings unattended. As you can see, your thoughts/feelings are kind of like plants. Every day, you have to take time to water them. So, instead of distracting yourself to wish your feelings away, take just 5 minutes to pinpoint what you're feeling and why. For example,
Angry - Savannah cheated off my paper
Sad - I didn't get the Job
Frustrated - Traffic made me late
Irritated - I accidentally ripped my schoolbook which made me even more upset
After telling reminding yourself why you feel this way, let yourself sit in all those emotions, and give yourself permission to feel what you feel.
3. Take Care of Yourself
I've learned from personal experience how important taking care of yourself is. If you don't know where to start, grab a journal and jot down some thoughts. Go for a walk, and breathe in that fresh air. Take a steamy shower or bath. We all know how we dread taking showers until we're in them. :) Taking care of yourself shows respect towards yourself, showing yourself you deserved to be cared for. Some other self care ideas include doing a face mask, doing a puzzle or coloring book while listening to music, grab a cup of tea, or curl up with your favorite book.
4. Go Outside
I know everyone says this, but really. Go outside and look up. (Depending on the day, you may need sunglasses. And if you have allergies, I understand and...well, prepare yourself.) Still if just for 3 minutes, just look and breathe and be alive. Take in the clouds, (if any) and If there's rain, find the beauty in it. If you really think about it, rain is beautiful. Don't look straight at the sun, but bask in the glow it casts on the ground. 5. Focus on Gratitude
Instead of being grumpy about the bad things, look for silver linings. It could just be naming 3 things you're grateful for in your head, or finding something happy like the way the sun cast shadows on the trees. And don't let those moments pass you by. When you witness something you're grateful for, take a few seconds to sit there in that gratefulness. Or, every morning and night, write down 3 things you're grateful for. Whatever it is, being thankful gets your head on straight. And that way, when a bad mood comes along, you'll be ready to fight it with happiness. :)
